Alice Russell – ‘Hurry Home’ – Director Steve Glasher

It started with the best of intentions! I rang Al (TM Juke) about shooting a video for the song, I knew there wouldn’t be any money because she was signed to Tru Thoughts, but the Spiegel Tent was in town so it seemed like a good opportunity. They said ‘You can film outside after 10pm, but you’ll have to wait till 3am to get the interior shots done’. We started filming outside with a crowd of 100 pissed people who’d been turned out of the club just fucking stood there slack jawed. By the time we were ready for filming inside it was getting on for 4am and Alice, who’s only sung the song once when it was recorded, was too drunk to remember the words. Suzi Horn had to lie on the floor under the camera mouthing the words! I think it’s a good video considering; the Spiegel Tent is a lovely venue to film in, but ultimately it’s another situation where you wish you had more time, more money and a sober singer.
